Allergies

More and more people are suffering from allergies these days. There seems to be an over abundance of plant and tree pollen. Oddly enough at the same time, people who never had allergies now seem to be getting them (young and old).

Talk to someone you know who has never had allergies and ask them how they are doing. I recently spoke with some people I know who never had allergic reactions to the outdoors (young people as well). It seems that there has been an uptick and surge in having an allergy.

You can go in many directions with this conversation. Who is to blame? Is it a conspiracy? Ore our foods to blame? Are we to blame? What is going on? Apart from all these questions, I think the proper thing to do is to try and resolve the situation as best as you can and ask questions later.

The quick solution for most people would be to go and buy some Zyrtec or Allegra. But this is MindBodyNature.com with the emphasis right now on nature. So check with your doctor before doing any of these things as you are responsible for your own life and your own health. And then take a look at some of these remedies.

1. Get tested for food allergies. Most people are allergic to some type of food. It could be a very small allergy to something you don’t even realize you are allergic to. It could be the way something is cooked. Pay attention and keep notes.

2. Most people are allergic to dust (actually dust mites). There are a few things you can do to help yourself stop sneezing when you are in your own home.

  • A. Make sure your place is clean. VERY clean.
  • B. Get an air filter for your bedroom (and if you can afford it, get one for your living room). Having a Hepa filtered air conditioner is best. Look below for a few air conditioners you can buy.
  • C. Get pillow and mattress covers. Not plastic but fabric with a zipper. Breathing well when you sleep is a must for optimum health. Look below for pillow and mattress covers.
  • D. As odd as this may sound, get a dust and pollen mask. Sometimes when I start to cough at night, I put one on and it helps me breath without coughing and thus I get to sleep easier. Make sure it is a cheap and think mask as you don’t want to fight to get air. I usually cover most of my face (nose and mouth) until I get sleepy and then I  just cover my mouth so my nose is not covered. This is a great help when you have sneezing and coughing every time you get into bed.

If you cover your bed with special allergy protection covers, if you vacuum with a vacuum that has no bag but a HEPA filter, and if you keep your place very clean, this should be a good start to having less symptoms.

3. Get allergy shots. When I was first told to get allergy shots by my doctor, I put it off over and over until years went by. Now I wish I had taken them when I was told to. I think my first reaction to avoid them was because I thought I was going to be injected with something synthetic and unnatural. But taking allergy shots is basically like getting a flu shot. You are being injected with what you are allergic to and you build up your immune system to this allergy. A friend of mine is no longer allergic to cats and pollen as he was when he was a teenager because he took allergy shots for five years. I am in my third year and I have to say it has helped me a great deal.

4. Drink better water. Many people do not realize that they drink poor water. Their water has toxic metals, chemicals, and it’s too acidic. Acidosis is one of the leading causes of illness. Acidosis is when your body is too acidic. You want your body to be in balance. We’re talking about pH balance. If you are eating fried food, processed food, or “sweats” and desserts; you most likely have an acidic stomach.

5. Eat foods that are good for your immune system. Foods like garlic, salmon (Omega-3 fatty acids), carotenoids (Beta carotene like carrots, spinach, lettuce, peppers, and kale),  vitamin C (fruit and peppers), and take vitamins like zinc and Vitamin E.

6. Exercise is one of the most important things you can do to have a healthy body and thus less allergic reactions to your environment. As the saying goes, “If you don’t use it, you lose it.” You need to exercise each day. This will help your immune system greatly.
